Jan was born on August 15th, 1895.  Jan's father was Mans Sikkenga and his mother was Grietje Sliekers.  His paternal grandparents were Jans (geboren Rensje) Sikkenga and Geessien Meppelink of Meppeling. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Jans, Hendrik, Geesje and Willemtje.  He was the second oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 24 on May 16th, 1920.
