Willem was born on May 19th, 1798 in Stavoren.1  Willem's father was Daniel Weerman Schultze and his mother was Aafje of Aafke Willems Reitsma of WIebes Ritsma.  His paternal grandparents were August Whilhelm Schultze and Alida Judet Gerhardyna. He had three brothers and a sister, named August Wilhelm, Wiebe, Daniel and Alida Judith Gerhardina Daniël .  He was the oldest of the five children.
